Nylon 6,6
Nylon 6,6 is one of the most commonly used types of synthetic polymers in the textile and plastic industries. It is resistant to wear and abrasion, has high tensile strength, and is stable under heat. Applications of this fiber range from clothing to automotive parts and industrial machinery.
Chemtex provides engineering and procurement using INVISTA licensed technology as a design engineering contractor. We supply basic and detailed design, process equipment, and technical services for commissioning of the plants that produce the Nylon 6,6 polymer.
Chemtex ensures that the safety standards incorporated in INVISTA technology are upheld during engineering design. We also supplement the INVISTA engineering package with additional information to ensure compliance with local standards and requirements for safe design and operation of each plant depending on location and site conditions.
Nylon 6,6 Technology Process
Nylon 6,6 begins with the synthesis of two primary raw materials, hexamethylene diamine (HMD) & adipic acid (AA). These compounds are most commonly derived from various chemical processes that involve the refining of petroleum products.
The raw materials are first combined to form a nylon salt solution. The salt solution conditions are carefully monitored & controlled to meet production requirements. This solution is then transferred to the polymerization stage.
The core of Nylon 6,6 production centers around the continuous polymerization stage where catalyst, AA & HMD are combined in a specialized reaction vessel under precisely controlled conditions. this process forms long polymer chains through condensation chemical reactions, releasing water as a byproduct.
After polymerization, the Nylon 6,6 polymer is extruded through a die head to form chips. the extruded chips are rapidly cooled and solidified, shaping the polymer into manageable pellets that set the stage for subsequent processing.
The Nylon 6,6 chips are then melted and spun. During the spinning, the molten polymer extrudes through a spinneret to form fibers. This transformation of chips to fibers greatly impacts the final product characteristics, such as strength, elasticity & thermal resistance.
Post-extrusion, the fibers undergo a drawing process. This process stretches and aligns the polymer chains, further enhancing strength & elasticity. The fibers are then cooled and solidified into their final form.
Depending on the intended application, the Nylon 6,6 fibers may be further processed, including stages such as texturizing & twisting, which will adapt the fibers for a diverse range of applications, spanning from textiles to automotive. Chemtex, in partnership with INVISTA, provides expertize in all aspects of Nylon 6,6 technology transfer.
